1931 Ford Model A Woody Huckster
(616) 855-6600(616) 855-6600
Wooden Wagon
Exterior Color:
Throne Brown
Transmission:
3-Speed Manual
Vehicle Original VIN : A4778670
The Huckster was not a Ford factory body style. It was a conversion, built in the early part of the 20th century by fitting a wooden enclosure to the rear of a vehicle so that a peddler could travel from neighborhood to neighborhood selling fruits, vegetables, and dry goods directly out of the back. They were common sights on American streets through the 1920s and into the 1940s, and very few have survived in this kind of condition. This one is finished in Thorne Brown with black fenders, tan wire-spoke wheels, and a black vinyl top, and it is not sitting in a garage waiting for a show. It is being used for historical tours and weddings, which is exactly the kind of life a car like this deserves.
Under the hood is the 200.5 cubic inch flathead inline four backed by a three-speed manual transmission. The Model A produced double the horsepower of the Model T it replaced and was considered a significant leap forward in both refinement and drivability when it debuted in 1927. This one is yearly inspected, serviced, and maintained, and runs well. Hydraulic brakes have been fitted, along with turn signals and seatbelts, giving it the safety features needed for active, regular use. It is stored in a heated building through the winter, which shows in how the wood and body have held up.
Inside, the brown leather bench seats are clean and comfortable for the kind of slow, scenic driving this car was built around. The wooden cab construction is solid and well kept, showing the care that regular use and proper storage bring to a vehicle like this over time.
1931 was the final year of Model A production. Ford moved on to the new V8-powered Model 18 in 1932, and the Model A’s four-year run came to a close with over 4.8 million units built. A Woody Huckster from that final year, in active and well-documented use, stored properly, and maintained annually, is one of the more unusual and genuinely charming vehicles you will find on the market.
