Polanskis Horror-Parodie ist von der ersten bis zur letzten Minute a) köstlich und b) einzigartig. Nie wieder gab es einen auf wunderbare weise skurilleren Film als diesen. In CinemaScope und mit ungewöhnlicher, barock-Jazzig-abgedrehter Musik von Komeda offeriert das Werk puren Komödien-Luxus-Horror mit einer einmalig grotesk-romantischen Grundstimmung. Perfekt agiert, göttlich ausgestattet: ein Muß. Fazit: absolut sehenswert

Moviemans Kommentar zur DVD: Das Bild ist sauber gemastert, der Ton etwas rauschig und dünn, die Extras recht nett, aber zu wenig.

Bild: Die anamorphe Scope-Optik sieht recht schick aus. Wenn auch die Laserdisc seinerzeit noch einen Hauch mehr Kontrast-Glanz hatte, so kann die Abtastung doch überzeugen. Schneeszenen bereiten ihr keine Schwierigkeiten (00.02.25) und die Schärfe reicht, um in Halbtotalen Schrift auf Grabsteinen entziffern zu können (01.33.04). Kamerabewegungen laufen problemlos ab und die Bewegungsstabilität bleibt auch in dunklen Szenen erhalten (00.22.21, dunkler Raum).

Ton: Der Monoton liegt weder in deutsch, noch in englisch in einer wirklich guten Fassung vor. Die deutsche Version wirkt recht gepresst und nicht sonderlich höhenfreundlich, sie neigt zu Rauschen und die Musik kann zuweilen etwas klirren (01.10.38). Etwas klarer arbeitet der englische Soundtrack, der aber auch ein Grundrauschen aufweist. Die Stimmen bleiben aber verständlich.

Extras: Ein Promo-Filmchen und der Trailer…ein wenig mehr hätte man sich bei einem Klassiker dieses Formates schon gewünscht. –movieman.de

Wer hätte gedacht, dass das Genre Martial Arts und die Herkunftsbezeichnung “Made in Germany” in einen Satz passen? Der in Geislingen geborene Nebendarsteller Brandon Rhea berichtet in einem ultrakurzen Interview, er sei Spezialist im Lanzenkampf – eine deutsche Erfindung, die in die Martial-Arts-Tradition übernommen worden sei. Ansonsten nimmt es diese DVD mit der Herkunft nicht so genau: Rheas Filmfigur wird mal als Belgier, dann als Deutscher geführt. Weitaus ärgerlicher ist, dass “Fearless” nur in der internationalen Schnittfassung auf DVD erscheint. Das Original hätte sich 50 Minuten mehr Zeit gelassen für den spannenden historischen Hintergrund. Nach dem ersten Opiumkrieg leidet das Reich der Mitte unter den Demütigungen der Briten. Nur Huo Yuanjia (Jet Li), der beste Wushu-Kämpfer seiner Zeit, zeigt den Europäern, was eine Faust ist. Doch zuvor muss er den Kampf gegen sich selbst, seine Arroganz und seinen Hass gewinnen. Das 16-minütige Making-of käut diese Weisheit im Stil einer Shoppingkanal-Sendung wieder. Die Blicke hinter die Kulissen erfüllen gerade einmal Mindeststandards. Keine Selbstverständlichkeit: Es gibt auch die Originalversion in Mandarin. Gegen deren dynamischen, wuchtig gemischten DD5.1-Ton kann die deutsche Spur einpacken.
