1918 Ford Model T
Here is a beautifully restored 1918 Ford Model T Centerdoor. It has been updated with a rebuilt 1923 engine/transmission and the drive train is rebuilt with a standard 3.67 ratio ring and pinion set. Special features include a Warford transmission and disc brakes. Auxiliary brakes are a great safety feature on Model T’s. Regarding the Warford low-range; low setting is a good assist when loading a car on a trailer or on steep inclines. The high setting in Warford low-range is good for typical slower speeds often encountered in Model T tours and parades (when loafing along at 15-20 mph in Ford high is hardon the engine in Ford high). The coils were just tuned on an ECCT, the spark plugs cleaned and gapped, and the Anderson-style timer inspected. The electrical system is converted to 12 volts so the lights are bright and starting is easy. On the new engine, due to the issues associated with generators, mainly with the “cut-out” switch, a modern alternator has been installed. This rebuilt motor is strong, easily cruising at 35-40 mph.
Speaking of safety, all the glass in the car has been replaced with laminated glass, removing the issues of the plate glass that came with these cars. You can see from the photos the car has a beautiful green paint job and the interior is an all new, exact reproduction of the original fabric and materials supplied by Classtique Upholstery of Lindstrom, MN . The interior features items which are unique to the pre-1920 Centerdoors such as carpeted cowl and door panels and window shades on the three rear windows. Also characteristic of 1918 are the “bale” door handles. The Universal brand, 30X3.5 demountable tires are good, but one has some weather checking and should be swapped with the spare, which is good. There was some front-end repair done recently so the radiator shell, green in the photos, is now black. Note that the front passenger seat is not mounted, a common practice with these cars. The seat comes with the car and installation is quite simple. This car is in such good condition that it should provide years of enjoyment. The car comes with the Arkansas title which has an earlier 1920 engine number. Engine swaps are common on these early cars and a Bill of Sale will be provided to document the engine number change to the present replacement engine.
